Rolling

on Tuesday, January 19, 2010

So, I just bought some rollerblades from good will for $5. 8D They are pretty much new, so I'm pretty stoked. I sort of suck at it though. lol I was ran Maverick around the block with them though.

I need to refresh his skills on the basics, come, stay etc. Definitely stay. He has troubles with distractions.

But our cup work is going great. He's doing it from a distance now, and sort of in sentences.

But something awesome, I just sold the weave poles I made for $10 for $30 on Craigslist. I'll have to make some new ones though. DX But hey! 10 bucks is 10 bucks! I'm thinking of making jumps and selling them on there. =]

Cookies!

on Monday, January 18, 2010

Just made some cookies with this awesome recipe. =]

Dog biscuit

1/2 cup cornmeal
6 tbsp Oil
2 cups whole wheat flour
2/3 cup water or broth

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients together well. Roll out to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutter. Bake 35-40 mins, let cool and store in tightly sealed container.

Hehe While waiting for them to bake, I taught Maverick how to put his nose in a cup, took us all of 5 minutes to learn it. I love this dog! <3
I used the command "in the cup" so I could use it in sentences like "What's in the cup?" "Is there anything in the cup?" etc. It'll be a crowd pleaser with the kids I'm sure. =] Now we need to work on doing it from a distance, in sentences, and in different situations.

Left Right

Well, so far I've gotten him to understand the difference between his right and left paws (giving me the side I ask for). Still needs a bit of fine tuning of course, but he's doing good. =]
Were also working on the weave poles every chance we get. Just a few times through a couple times a day.
I have just started teaching coordination, to put object in other objects, or over/on them. I hope to translate this into stacking cups and the such. =]
Later on, I also plan to start him on how learning how to spin, leg weave, and turn left or right. But we have enough on our plate so far. ^_^

Hehe He was actually sleeping. =] What a dork.

So he's doing pretty well after his surgery. His incision is looking good and everything. The down time has been hard on him though, he just really wants to go. Darn working lines. =P

Winter

on Sunday, January 17, 2010

Yay! It's been a while, but a new update!
Even though there's not much to do outside, were still having fun.
These are just a few clips of some newer stuff, obviously the last ones are older.

This was his first day with the weave poles. I'm rather proud of how quickly he's picked it up so far. =]

Limping is going to need a lot more work though. lol

Maverick is starting to get how to catch a frisbee as well! *dances*

Garbage

on Sunday, September 13, 2009

The newest tricks we are working on are limp and bow. They are pretty simple, so expect to see some updates soon! :D

In the mean time, I took a video of one of Maverick's older tricks.
Please do excuse my voice, I have a terrible cold. =\

Box

Inspired by this photograph, for the past week I have been working on teaching Maverick this trick.

Interested in the approach I took to this challenge?
Well you're in luck! I took the time to document our groundwork. :)

The paint can was the last thing we used before we went out and found a fire hydrant.

Have a training challenge for us? Post it in a comment below! :D
